As I prepare to leave Baja California Sur, I am filled with immense gratitude and reflection. Todos Santos has been more than just a town; it has been a sanctuary, a teacher, and a source of healing. This letter is my way of saying thank you—to the people, the landscapes, and the moments that have touched my heart and helped me find myself again.
A Landscape That Heals
Todos Santos, with its charming streets, vibrant colours, and tranquil beaches, is a place that seems to exist outside of time. The sunsets here, with their fiery oranges and soft pinks, have been a constant reminder of nature’s ability to inspire awe and bring peace to the soul. The crashing waves of the Pacific have served as a metronome to my days, steady and grounding.
I’ll never forget my nights at Baljala, looking up at the Milky Way in the undisturbed night sky. The absence of skyglow allowed the stars to shine in their full brilliance, offering a profound sense of connection to the universe. Mornings brought their own magic—sunrises painting the horizon as I ran along the beach or cycled through the still-sleeping town, finding peace in the quiet. And then there were the hikes at Punta Lobos, waiting for that final golden glow to warm my face, moments that reminded me of the beauty of simply being present.
The desert, with its stark, cacti-studded beauty, was a place of introspection. It stripped away distractions and forced me to confront myself. In that confrontation, I found clarity and a piece of myself I didn’t even know was missing. Todos Santos allowed me to reconnect with nature and, in doing so, reconnect with myself.
Gratitude for the People
To the community of Todos Santos: thank you. Your warmth, your smiles, and your way of life have taught me the importance of slowing down and appreciating the present moment. Whether it was a simple “Buenos días” from a passing stranger or stories shared over a cold beer at sunset, you reminded me of the power of connection and the beauty of human kindness.
A heartfelt thank you to The Funky Monkey Gang for your unwavering support and friendship. You were my anchors here, and your camaraderie made every moment brighter. To Todos Santos Hostel: thank you for letting me overstay my welcome. Jacopo, Laura, Bruno, Emilia, Augustine, Laura, and the wonderful guests who passed through—you all left an indelible mark on my heart. A special thanks to Justin and Angie at Baljalla. Not only did I enjoy every moment there, but I also accomplished one of my dreams thanks to your encouragement and support. The entire gang deserves my gratitude, and I have no doubt our paths will cross again.
And to Casa Paraiso, my last home here, thank you for being a place of grounding. Maya, Queso, and Silvia, you provided the companionship and joy I needed during my final months. Noelle, thank you for opening your home to me and giving me the space to reconnect with myself—mind, body, and soul. It was exactly what I needed to push through with my plans and ideas.
A Time for Healing
Baja Sur has been more than just a stop on my journey; it has been a sanctuary. After a period of emotional turbulence, self-doubt, and loss, this place offered me a chance to breathe, reflect, and regain focus. The solitude of the desert, paired with the rhythmic energy of the ocean, created the perfect environment for healing. It gave me the space to let go of the past and embrace the present with open arms.
In Todos Santos, I rediscovered my purpose and reframed my perspective. I learned that every challenge is an opportunity to grow and every ending is a chance for a new beginning. I leave here with a lighter heart, a clearer mind, and a deeper understanding of myself. This town, this community, and this land have helped me heal in ways I didn’t think were possible.
Until We Meet Again
There are no words that can truly capture the essence of Todos Santos, but I will try. It is the way the bougainvillea spills over whitewashed walls, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafting through the air, and the sound of distant waves blending with the hum of life in the plaza. It is the art, the music, the culture that pulses through the town, making it alive and vibrant.
The beaches deserve their own ode. From the wild beauty of Playa La Cachora to the meditative serenity of Punta Lobos, each stretch of sand has its own personality, its own story. These shores have witnessed my moments of solitude, my laughter with new friends, and my silent promises to myself to keep moving forward.
As I leave, I take with me the lessons I’ve learned and the memories I’ve made. Todos Santos, you have been a teacher, a healer, and a friend. Though I may be moving on, you will always hold a special place in my heart.
This is not goodbye forever; it is a simple “see you later.” To Baja California Sur and Todos Santos: thank you for everything. I will carry your magic with me wherever I go.
Live well and best wishes to all who have become an extension of my family.
